Can you tell me more about the new product? We took an in-depth look at the Fortis and DocuWare technology architectures before we decided to move the Fortis product lines to the DocuWare platform. We’ve taken on a three-plus year development project to create an outstanding combined product and a migration path from Fortis to DocuWare.
How long will Fortis and FortisBlue be supported? Fortis’s official end of life is December 31, 2018. This means that Fortis software will no longer be updated, and the Fortis to DocuWare license swap program will end. Fortis accounts that migrate to DocuWare in 2019 will be required to purchase net new DocuWare licenses. We recognize that there may be customers who cannot migrate to DocuWare within the 2018 timeframe. In 2019, DocuWare will offer telephone support to Fortis customers to bridge this gap.
Is everything that is included in the core Fortis/FortisBlue product in DocuWare? If not, will I have to pay more to get the same functionality? For the most part, the systems are priced comparably. There will be a minimal difference in either direction depending on your system size and options.
Can you describe the DocuWare licensing model? In Fortis we have scan, view and edit licenses. DocuWare is similar to Fortis in that it has a concurrent licensing model, but unlike Fortis it does not differentiate between these functional seat levels. DocuWare is more like FortisBlue in this regard where there is only a single license type. As you are migrated to DocuWare you will get as many licenses as you have for scan, edit and view combined. So if you have 5 scan licenses and 10 view licenses, you would get 15 DocuWare concurrent licenses that provide full functionality.

If we want to deploy a demo version of Docuware in our environment is that relatively easy? If you use the Cloud version it’s incredibly easy. You go to a URL, put in your name and email address and get credentials. There’s nothing to install or download. If you want to deploy a demo version on-premise there’s some effort involved. That’s something that you would contact your Parner or DocuWare Professional Services for, and there most likely would be a charge.
Is there DocuWare user training? User training is available through DocuWare Professional Services or through your Authorized DocuWare Partner as part of the migration engagement. Is licensing different for different database types? Fortis w/SQL or Oracle? Fortis for Oracle you use your own? For example, I have an Oracle database for Fortis and I want to continue using it for DocuWare, will there be any issues? There is no separate licensing for using DocuWare with Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL which comes with DocuWare. If you already have purchased Oracle or SQL Server licenses Fortis or FortisBlue you can use the licenses you have.
Will those of us who do not work with a Partner continue to have the ability to do our own upgrades?
The upgrade from Fortis to DocuWare requires specific technical skills and an administrative understanding of both Fortis/FortisBlue and DocuWare. We highly recommend that you migrate with the help of an Authorized DocuWare Partner or DocuWare Professional Services. Once you upgrade to DocuWare, administrators have access to perform DocuWare upgrades.
I pay an annual support and maintenance fee. Why do I have to pay additional money for Professional Services to upgrade to DocuWare? Annual support and maintenance covers standard technical hotline support and software updates. It provides insurance that critical line-of-business systems will continue to function. It is always to your advantage to stay on maintenance and support to protect your investment in the software. When you upgrade to DocuWare, you’re getting a new platform with advanced technology and additional features.
When are the free license exchanges available? Thre free licenses are available now.
Is the new software free or is there an additional cost? For all Fortis and FortisBlue customers on support and maintenance contracts the upgrade to DocuWare will be at no license charge for the core system or any add-on modules. There will be some costs in upgrading the system like any other Fortis or FortisBlue upgrade which will be provided to you by either your Fortis partner or DocuWare Professional Services.
Will this be an upgrade or a new install? This will be a new install. It’s a new application but it is licensed like an upgrade so like any other Fortis or FortisBlue upgrade you will get the licenses for the upgrade free of charge. But in more technical terms this is like a new system with a migration component.
Are there any Docuware features or functionality that our free Fortis Upgrade licenses do NOT get us?
You will get modules that match you current licensed functionality of Fortis or FortisBlue. DocuWare has many modules and you may be interested in purchasing additional add-on modules. Contact your Fortis/FortisBlue partner or FortisSales@docuware.com for more information.
How much is a Docuware Maintenance and Support contract? Just as with Fortis and FortisBlue the Maintenance and Support contracts for DocuWare are based on the number of licenses, concurrent seats and add-on modules that you have. Talk to your DocuWare Partner or DocuWare Professional Services and we can take your current configuration and tell you what the equivalent DocuWare support contract will cost. Your Partner and DocuWare Professional Services have full access to the mapping of licenses between Fortis and FortisBlue and Docuware and what the support and maintenance will be. DocuWare and Fortis have a similar pricing models. In most cases support and maintenance will be comparable. Sometimes it will be more, sometimes it will be less, but in general with the options available between Cloud and On-Premise the options available will be similar to what you have today.
Will there be an on-premise solution as well as a Cloud solution? Customers will be able to move to DocuWare on-premise using a server that they have installed on-site. Or they can choose to move to the DocuWare Cloud system which means there is no server required.
Will I need to upgrade my hardware? If your hardware meets the Technical Specifications listed here, no.
How will the interface change effect our users' ability to accomplish their daily tasks? While any change in interface will have an impact on users initially, after they become familiar with the new environment, their daily tasks will be easier to accomplish. In order to continually improve the user experience, DocuWare has a user experience designer who works very hard to assure that the interface is intuitive.
Will functionality available in optional components for Fortis/Blue be available in DocuWare? DocuWare has add-on modules that provide similar functionality to the optional components you are used to working with in Fortis or FortisBlue. While they may work a little bit differently, the net result will be the same.
Will there be a Web only interface or will there be a thick client? DocuWare is solely an HTML Web Client. There are Desktop Apps that are installed for configuration, scanning, importing and other functions.

Does DocuWare support multiple languages? Yes, DocuWare supports 16 different languages.
